What is link bait?

Link bait is a phrase, usually a headline, that is written in a manner intended solely to get users to click through to the page. Link bait headlines are often used on social media platforms and are extremely annoying, even if pretty effective.

Example of linkbait

Linkbait phrases are written in a formulaic manner and are reused for different articles. A few choice examples are:

Man dances with a tiger, you won’t believe what happens next...

or

205 places to see before you die, number 47 is my favourite…

There are a number of generic linkbait generators available, but the SEOniverse will always recommend that you spend time crafting your own headlines. Don’t use cheap tactics to get a worthless click - just think of your bounce rate!
